Calling Tips

• Identifying yourself as a constituent is effective. Elected officials are more likely to listen to voters in their district. Share as much information as you're comfortable with.

• Connect yourself to your issue or opinion with a quick personal story or example of your expertise.

• It's most effective to speak in your own words.

• Keep things short: Be clear about what you're talking about (e.g. refer to a bill by its exact number).

• Be precise when asking your elected official to do something specific.

• Leave a message if you get a voicemail.
